I was a manager for our football team. We were at early morning practice before school. I remember the coaches getting news of it and having all the guys take a knee before they headed to the showers. Our coach told the team that something terrible had happened in New York and took a moment of "silent reflection." One of the guys started the Lord's Prayer out loud and everyone followed along. Coach told us that terrible things happen in the world and the best thing we can do is to continue on our day trying to do the best we could do in the circumstances. As the following days and months unfolded, our coaches were there to give counsel and encouragement. They continually reminded us that just because something terrible happened, we were to focus on what we had right in front of us. We couldn't fix the world's problems, but we could fix the problems in our immediate vicinity. It was a real life lesson for all of us.
